Concert Dress Protocol

Exeter Chamber Choir:  CONCERT DRESS PROTOCOL (July 2017)

1. Black

Ladies

Smart, full-length long-sleeved black dress (OR smart trousers/skirt + smart top) + black shoes. Length should be mid-calf to ankle length or below. If dress is not long-sleeved, arms may be covered by a smart black cardigan/bolero.

Evening fabrics, i.e. no tee-shirts.

Optional sparkly bling as appropriate.

Men

Smart black trousers, black shirt and black jacket + black shoes.

No bow ties.

The decision about men wearing jackets or not will be made before each performance, according to temperature – so please have your jacket with you.

Christmas Concerts: additional optional dash of red.

Lenten Concerts: additional optional subtle dash of purple.

2. Coloured

Ladies

A plain coloured evening dress rather than separates, within a colour spectrum of blues, greens and purples (N.B. no pale colours and no purples in the red spectrum i.e. no crimson/burgundy colours).

If you have nothing appropriate in these colours, you may wear your black dress with a splash of colour – jewellery or a smart cardigan in blue, green or purple.

Evening fabrics, i.e. no tee-shirts.

Length should be mid-calf to ankle length or below. The main thing is that it looks like smart evening wear, not a Sunday morning dress.

Dresses can have short sleeves or straps, but no strapless dresses please. You may wish to wear a short, smart bolero-type cardigan (which may be removed if the weather is very warm).

Smart evening shoes (black/coloured), but no sandals, unless of the smart, evening type.

Please glamourise your chosen outfit with appropriate sparkly bling.

Men

Black trousers, with a smart, long-sleeved plain coloured shirt in the same spectrum as the ladies dresses – blues, greens and purples (N.B. no pale colours or purples in the red spectrum i.e. no crimson/burgundy colours).

Black shoes.
