Membership
We are an auditioned choir, based on the usual types of classical singing voice: soprano, alto, tenor and bass. Prospective members must have clear voices with good experience of singing in choirs, listening to others and blending into the overall sound. You must be able to read and learn music independently from printed scores. Our rehearsals focus on creating the overall performance, not on learning the notes. Good sight-reading ability is useful. We carry out vocal reviews of all members every few years.
At the time of writing (Autumn 2025) we only have vacancies for tenors. We are always happy to hear from experienced singers of all voices.
If we do not have any vacancies in your voice part, we will add you to a waiting list and contact you to come for an audition when we have vacancies. Our music director auditions prospective members and makes a recommendation to the committee on whether to invite the singer to join the choir for a trial. This is normally for a term or until the next concert. After the trial period, if the singer wishes to continure, the music director recommends to the committee whether the singer should be invited to join the choir.
The current annual subscription is £135.20, payable in quarterly instalments..
To express interest in joining the waiting list, please send us an email with the following information;
- Your name
- Your voice (Soprano, Alto, Tenor, Bass) and usual voice part (first or second)
- Confirmation that you read music easily and a self-assessment of your sight-reading ability (Excellent, Decent, Survival)
- A SHORT summary of your choral experience, focussing on the most recent (last 5 years).
